My "Nudie" Potty Trainee

So, we have tirelessly been working on potty training over here... but one of the hiccups has been that little Reid INSISTS on stripping down to, well...nuttin!! No pullup, no shorts, no shirt...even socks need to be off! Toby lovingly calls this bear style. I call it frustrating.

I have begun to see a pattern in our bathroom endeavors as well...first clothes off, then business taken care of (or not), and then washing of hands of course...but then this also turns into brushing teeth (Reid's insistence, not mine). While I do love that he is brushing his teeth once every 1 to 1 1/2 hours I really would rather a potty experience, at least one, without brushing of the teeth! Plus, streaking around preschool is not going to go over well...nor do I plan to pack his toothbrush to seal the deal! ;)

It kind of reminds me of the story If You Give A Moose A Muffin...do you know that story and the events that ensue related to the muffin??

Here's our version...

If you give a kid a potty chances are he'll peal his clothes off down to the buff... If he peals his clothes off down to the buff chances are he'll need to wash his hands....and if he washes his hands chances are this will remind him of the last time (1/2 hour ago) that he brushed his teeth and will insist on doing it again, and again, and again......

So darling that boy of yours!nothing like a nude cutie!Pictures are beautiful too.Love the black and white.

You know,we,meaning Miss Z,is I know, years off from grasping the potty training thing BUT we keep trucking forward. She goes on the potty multiple times a day.We have an extra potty seat in the back of the car.Her inability to stand or walk does make things a bit tricky but forward on we move, with the great hope she does "get it" one day.And least I doubt her ability to understand, her new ploy, when we go to bed and we have gone potty and read books and are rocking, she signs potty ... a major stale tactic on her part!

Keep it up.It is only a matter of time before it all clicks.

Sorry to say, but that cracks me up! I wish you luck with the potty training and may Reid stop brushing every attempt at potty!

Love the photos and the post! I have a son Matthew, now 18, with Down Syndrome who used to do similar quirky things. I remember one time we were having a family get-together and we sent Matthew inside to change his clothes. He emerged a few minutes later wearing his sister's cheerleading outfit much to the amusement of all our guests. Matthew's always been a ham. The photos of Reid reminded me of Matthew's personality. Thanks for sharing! Trey, editor, downsyndrometoday.com

I can only imagine how frustrating that must....but I just can't help but LOL! He is just too cute and my guess is he has the cleanest hands and teeth in town! :)

Maybe give him a baby wipe to "wash" his hands with rather than using the sink and maybe that will detour the brushing of teeth???

I know a couple of kids that walked around in the buff when they were potty training. But thats quite the routine he has down!

I've heard this is very common. Samantha takes her pants all the way off when she uses the potty, much to my frustration.

What better way for you to ensure Reid's most excellent dental hygiene? :-)

oh my gosh - that picture of him standing naked at the sink (view from the back) is TOO cute! i bet his dentist is impressed by his teeth brushing skills but hopefully he will soon realize he doesn't have to brush his teeth every time he goes to the bathroom :)

At least Reid is taking off his cloths when going to the potty... would be worse if he did not take anything at all, if you see what I mean... :-\

Is it part of a routine for him, association of one sequence with another? Or is it that he got so much praise at the begining that he repeats it to get more and more praise... We all like to be praised, don't we?

Oh my goodness! Reid is quite the character. He cracks me up (no pun intended) These pictures are absolutely precious. I love the editor from Down Syndrome Today magazine's story too. So sweet. I'll be retiring on Aug. 20th and hoping to get together for a play date with Addie and you and Reid. Love you!

He makes me laugh out loud- what a character! But I can see how a mummy might not be all that keen on the idea either...
